My Story
John Wilson is an engineer-turned-writer who spent most of his career designing and building computer systems before finding his way to fiction. After a serious fall led to a long stretch of surgeries and recovery, he finally had the time—and the stillness—to sit down and write. What began as a way to stay occupied gradually turned into a second vocation.
John’s work draws heavily on real places, working-class lives, and the quiet pressures people carry when options start to disappear. His crime novels center on Abel Kane, a character shaped by family loyalty, bad choices, and the slow consequences of living outside the law. His published fiction includes The Shadow of Black Water and The Devil’s Breath, with Wicked Blows the Bayou Wind forthcoming.
Before turning to fiction, John wrote the non-fiction book The Art of Accomplishment, drawing on years of project-management experience and a practical, no-nonsense approach to getting things done.
Originally from Ohio, John has lived in upstate New York, Toronto, Charlotte, and now the Houston area. When he’s not writing, he gravitates toward hands-on projects—guitar building, cooking, and spending time outdoors. He lives with his wife, Margaret, a trusted sounding board with a sharp eye for people and story. They also share their home with Blaze, an exceptionally furry dog who sheds year-round and remains unimpressed by deadlines.
Reviews
"A Shadow of Black Water" is an amazing read that takes you up and down the New Orleans underworld! It had me holding my breath in anticipation of what was to come. With a mix of characters to love, hate, and fear, and a twisted criminal organization to survive, crime and thrill readers will love every page they turn

Reading John Wilson's debut novel, A Shadow of Black Water, is like watching an action thriller movie. The book is a page turner of tough guys who talk fast, fight hard, and don't know when to stop. Set in the backdrop of the Dixie Mafia, the reader questions if bad guys stay bad and if good guys are ever truly good.
